• Universal X9 Slitter Rewinder is launched. After a massive investment, Universal Converting Equipment has launched its revolutionary Universal X9 duplex centre wind slitting and rewinding machine. The machine is designed to take slitting and rewinding to a new level. The machine allows film and paper converters to take total control of all the process parameters that are critical to obtaining high quality reels of material. The standard machine incorporates a shaft-less unwind, digital guider, automatic knife setting, Total Tension Control System, differential rewinds, automatic core alignment and the latest digital AC drive and control system. A set up wizard ensures the optimum conditions are used for all materials. Closed loop measurement of all the key parameters provides total quality control with actual tension profiles of all the rolls wound stored at the end of each run. Universal Converting Equipment have installed a CL350 hot melt coater and laminator at its sister company, Universal Adhesive Systems in Daventry. The machine incorporates the latest technologies available including automatic die positioning, adhesive coat weight scanning, in-line slitting and differential rewinding. The machine can be fitted with the latest hot melt and cold glue systems from ITW Dynatec. The machine can apply adhesive in widths up to 340mm. It can apply an all over coat, stripes or patches of adhesive at speeds up to 200 m/min. The recently developed APEX and Dynaspeed systems from ITW Dynatec allow precise patch coating at speeds of 200 m/min. The exciting new web guiding system is proving a great success. The system is designed to be operator friendly and is extremely easy to set up and use. Two of the UK’s leading flexible packaging producers have converted all the slitting machines to the system after a brief period of evaluation. • Turret Rewind System supplied to UK Film Converter Universal Converting Equipment supplies a turret rewind system to upgrade and existing converting equipment. With the capability to handle rolls up to 800mm diameter and operate at speeds up to 200m/min, the machine achieves huge productivity improvements.
Universal Converting Equipment supplies a Universal CL 600 hot melt coating and laminating machine to a German producer of speciality self adhesive products. The machine incorporates Universal’s Total Tension Control System, in-line slitting and adhesive coat weight scanning. With a coating width of up to 600mm, it can operate at speeds up to 200m/min with coat weights ranging from 10 gsm to 200 gsm. The high output machine is supplied with adhesives in drums which are unloaded using a Universal high flow rate drum unloader. Two ITW Dynatec hot melt Premelters fitted with high precision gear pumps are used to feed conventional and UV curing hot melts.
